The Club made a return visit to the comfortable Lodge Hotel in Newtonmore for 5 nights dinner, bed, and breakfast. After the long cold winter, hopes were high for great winter conditions, but the thaw started a week before our visit making for less than perfect snow. Nevertheless, 24 members and guests walked a variety of Munroes, Corbetts, lesser hills and glens for a very sucessful visit.

Scout Scar just to the west of Kendal, is a great place for a short walk. Below left shows a hang glider over the scar, and below right the sunset.


The winter conditions at the start of the month were still reasonable, and the shots below are of a day out by Mick, Alan, and Bill on Hutaple Crag, Sleet Cove in Upper Deepdale. Below left shows the crag from Cofa Pike (actually the last photo of the day) with the route indicated, and below right Alan and Bill on the walk in. Bottom left shows Mick and Bill, and Mick is on the bottom right photo.

 

The working weekend was well attended as usual. Some photos in the November section of the Gallery show the pipe bridge that carries the beck (called The Runner) in front of High House blocked with rubble, and the photo below left shows where all the stone had come from. The course of the beck behind High House had sliced a new course down the fellside, and the photo below right shows our attempt to force the water back into it's original course.
Bottom left shows the continuing work to improve the fire escape route behind the hut, and bottom right yet another tea break.

Some of the older members may remember Peter Goodwin who was a member from the mid 60's to the early 70's. He served on the Committee as Secretary and Chairman, and worked at K Shoes in IT. He now lives in Toronto and recently made contact with the Club having seen the web site. "A couple of years ago my daughter persuaded me to make a quick trip to the Lakes to take her down (my) memory lane", and the photo below left shows him at High House. The other three photos were taken by him whilst exploring in Canada.
